Star Wars Magic of Myth

What is the Star Wars Magic of Myth Tour?  It's a collection of Star Wars costumes, props and other memorabilia from the films, on loan to various museums and entities around the world.  Overseas, it's sometimes called "The Art of Star Wars"

We attended the Magic of Myth at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum  on our very first trip to Washington DC in May 1998.  The Smithsonian is free to get into and the exhibit was free!  We paid $5 for reserving tickets online. It helped to avoid longer lines.

The Magic of Myth Tour Closed in 2003, but lobbying efforts are to get it back on the road. I urge all of you to tell Mr. Lucas to go one more round with this because people like us, though thrilled to see the exhibit the month it opened, didn't get to see any Ep I, never-the-less Ep II, items.

See photos HERE (they are not great, but gives you an idea of what the exhibit was like).

What is Star Tours?  This is a ride at Disney based on the Star Wars films.  I got to finally go there in Spring of 2003 and had a blast.  Must be at least 3 years old and 40" tall to ride the ride. Due to the nature of this attraction, expectant mothers and guests with certain physical conditions should not ride. Star Tours opened in 1987 and is a flight simulator 4-D experience. Wait time varies.  Ride time 3-4 minutes. Fast Pass ride

Rumor:  Star Tours is in need of major refurbishment and will be closing sometime soon.

Official Word:  August 4th, 2003 "At this time there has been no announcement of any closure or refurbishment of the Star Tours attraction at the Disney-MGM Studios." -Disney Spokesperson

Other Star Wars Events other than conventions are rare, but do happen.  One such one was the "Art of the Starfighter" :

at the Smithsonian.  The "Art of Star Wars" is the overseas name for the Magic of Myth Tour.

UPDATE: From now till October 2005, The Naboo Starfighter will be on display at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

One cool even was the IMAX run of Attack of the Clones.

There have also been a couple Star Wars Concerts:

Other than TV events, premieres or Conventions, I really haven't heard of more major events.  If you know of any other Star Wars events, please  email me at dahoov2@cox.net  I've contacted Lucasfilm about a possible new Magic of Myth tour or other things, and though nothing major is going on right now, there are always talks about new things.  More should be coming in 2005 with the hype surrounding the release of Ep III.  Should any news happen, I promise you'll see it right here!

May 2002 Disney opts out of Star Wars weekends.  They still call it that, but there are no big pushes on advertising it, there is not much happening and it's odd to the fans who would flock in groves as Ep II is released the same time Disney would hold it's annual event. Officials did not comment on why this was a non-event.  They said they just decided not to do it.  No event, no guests, no poster. But the Ride and Cantina store is open.
